2018 Childhood Week: Food in my Childhood Memories

I participated #Childhoodweek this year created by Beatrice Blue.

•DAY1: TON TA KOB•
Back in Thailand my hometown. There used to have a tree full with vibrant berries call “ตะขบ (Ta-Kob), Muntingia Calibura” around my house. It’s so sweet the birds love this tree so much. So am I ♥️

•DAY2: MR.SAN FRANCISCO•Swensen’s is a big ice cream franchise in Thailand. My family used to go there a lot. There’s a special menu for kids called Mr.San Francisco. I loved ordering this lil cute guy with a bubblegum flavor. The biggest problem was I hate preserved cherries soooo much but it was a part of this menu on the top of the cone hat. My dad told me it’s my responsibility to finish it. Take it or leave the whole thing and order another else instead. Holding my breath and swallowed was what I did every time ‘til one day, I just don’t hate it anymore.

•DAY3: NOODLE CUP•
My parents used to give me allowance 20 baths (~ 1 usd) everyday for buying some snack during break or after school. The printed on the noodle cup is so pretty I saved my money for that, but one office lady bumped into me while I held the cup so it was fell down to the floor. My heart was broken I stood still and kept crying and crying. One kind lady came to me and gave me money to buy a new one.
Such an angel she is.

•DAY4: KAI PALO•
My dad did a little backyard garden and farm. We had a dozen of “ไก่แจ้(Gai-Jae), bantams” giving us eggs every day.
My favorite dish from these eggs is “ไข่พะโล้(Kai Pa-Lo), egg stew with five Chinese spices”.
The small sized- eggs makes the dish really friendly like it’s from kids menu.

•DAY5: DAD’S SOUP•
Soup is my must have dish for every occasion. I can just eat it everyday. But the most favorite one of all time is “ต้มจืดกระดูกหมูหน่อไม้, bamboo shoot soup with pork cartilages”. I always asked my dad to cook a big pot and saved some for Saturday night. There was a Japanese program named “TV Champion” screened at 9PM. I ate the soup with noodle while watching the competitors make their ramens, and had a thought that their ramens can’t be better than what I had for sure.

•DAY6: KA NOM KAI•
“ขนมไข่ (Ka-Nom-Kai)” is local Thai cake, pretty hard to find these days. The sweet scent and fluffiness when it freshly baked stopped me every time I walked passed the vendor in the market. There’s a time that I ate the whole piece in one bite and I got choking, so I swallowed another piece hoping it would push the stuck one down. But that caused even worse to the point that I nearly couldn’t breathe.
such a dumb way to die.

•DAY7: JUB CHAI•Thinking of special meal at home, it’s always Jub Chai for me. The original of “Jub Chai(จับฉ่าย), Chinese Vegetables Stew” is came from China, going by the same name 雜菜, means mixed veggies). My parents cooked in a huge pot it’s taking 3 meals a day for 3 days to finish it all. They cooked veggies so good three kids never have problems eating veggies.
